Edinburgh Airport Parking

EDI has parking available both on a drive-up basis, and also bookable in advance. While you do not have to pre-book, it is advisable to get the best possible rate for your airport parking. Booking in advance also means that your parking space is guaranteed, so no last-minute panic when you arrive and have to look for space if it is busy.

There is a range of car parking available at Edinburgh Airport. The only areas to operate with a vehicle height restriction are the terminal multi-storey car park, and the drop-off and pick up lanes. Here you will need to make sure your vehicle does not exceed 2.2m (7.2ft).

There is a lane for vehicles exceeding this limit next to the taxi rank by the main entrance, which gives access to the open-air car park near the terminal.

Cars, vans, motorbikes, caravans and minibuses can all safely be parked at Edinburgh Airport. It is worth noting that the multi-storey car park can only accommodate vehicles under 2.2metres (7.2ft) so if your van or trailer is taller you will need to use the outdoor car park.

There is a charge for the drop-off area near the terminal, which begins as soon as you enter. Up to 5 minutes will cost £2, rising to £15 for an hour or over.

If you don’t want to pay to drop off passengers, there is also a free drop-off area, located in the long-stay car park. From here, passengers can take a free shuttle to the terminal, which takes about 5 minutes.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main terminal, booking an airport lounge is a great idea. Lounges usually offer free Wi-Fi, food and drink, a range of newspapers and magazines and a quiet place to relax while you wait for your flight.

Making your way through the checking in process and security can take more time than you’d think. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport around 2-3 hours before the flight departure time.

In busy airports like Edinburgh, even if you are not checking in hold luggage, you could still face queues to get through security. Allowing plenty of time before your flight makes the experience stress free, with no last-minute panic about missing your plane if you are held up for any reason.

Each of the car parks at Edinburgh Airport has designated spaces for Blue Badge holders. The airport grants Blue Badge holders one hour of free access to any of the car parks around the site. The spaces are wider than standard spaces and are usually located close to shuttle bus stops or customer service reception areas.

The drop-off zone is also free of charge for one hour for Blue Badge holders. Upon exit, use the intercom at the barrier to speak with the attendant for free exit.

If you need special assistance with any aspect of your travel, you should contact your airline or travel operator at least 14 days prior to your travel date to arrange this.

Assistance is available within the airport for those with disabilities. There is reserved seating for those with reduced mobility, along with mobility equipment including wheelchairs. You can use your own mobility aids up until the point you board the plane. The cabin crew will return your equipment to you as you leave the plane.

For those with hidden disabilities, like visual or hearing impairment, or autism spectrum disorders, there is also help available. Airport security is designed to keep passengers and crew safe on all flights. All cabin bags are placed through a screening device, and passengers are also checked.

You will need to present your boarding card on arrival in the security area and make sure you comply with the airline policy on permitted items for your hand baggage.

Passengers will be asked to place all cabin baggage, electronic items, phones, laptops and tablets into a tray, to pass through the scanning equipment.

In addition, you should remove any bulky coats, jumpers, belts, metal items or heavy boots before walking through the walk-through scanner. You may be subject to other searches by security personnel, including with a handheld metal detector, or explosive trace detection equipment.

Once you and your baggage have been screened, you can move to the repacking area to repack your bags and gather your things together before moving into the departure lounge.
